HOST AN ENCOUNTER

Every Cinema Sanctum Encounter begins with a conversation.

The host brings together the people and creates the physical setting in which the Encounter can take place.

The Cinema Sanctum selects the central work in conversation with the host, develops the curatorial and experiential architecture, arranges the appropriate exhibition rights and screening material, and conducts the Encounter from beginning to end.

A host may be:

• an arts or cultural institution
• a university or design school
• a private members’ community
• a family office or selected client community
• a hospitality or destination property
• an agency or brand seeking an authored cultural experience for a carefully chosen group

THE COHORT

A typical Encounter is created for approximately 12 to 15 participants.

The host selects or invites the group in conversation with The Cinema Sanctum. Participants do not require a background in filmmaking or film studies. The essential requirement is a willingness to give sustained attention to the work and to remain for the complete day.

THE SETTING

The host ordinarily provides the venue, projection and sound infrastructure, local production support and hospitality.

The setting need not be elaborate. It must allow the group to watch the film without interruption, share a meal, spend some time apart from the screen and return for conversation.

THE COMMISSION

Each Encounter is developed in relation to its particular host, cohort, setting and central work.

The programme, exhibition rights, production requirements, professional fee and actual costs are established once the initial context has been discussed.
